Welcome to Miss Edwards' E-Portfolio,
I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my website. In this site, you will find my frame of reference, connection to teaching standards, inquiry questions I have reviewed, and finally my community action project. I graduated from the Post Baccalaureate Degree Program at Vancouver Island University in December 2017, with a focus in Elementary Education and teachable subjects in Social Studies and Language Arts. I also completed my Arts Undergrad Degree at Vancouver Island University with minors in English and Psychology.
At the bottom of this page, I have included links to the BCTRB Standards, BCTF Code of Ethics, BC Education Plan, and VIU Education Outcomes. I have also included an article titled, Tend to your Garden which describes how gardening is a metaphor for my teaching values. Since I am a gardener and a teacher, this article fits my belief about my role as a teacher and the importance of education.
“Just as a gardener must nurture the plants to continue the learning and growing process, so must an educator tend to learners and a learner must tend to their own learning landscape.”

Frame of Reference
By Denae Edwards
Teaching is a complex career, in that we are able to create a classroom that fosters our own beliefs and passions while teaching for the collective interests of the class. Teachers can create an environment that supports student’s personal learning while building a classroom community at the same time. While attending school as a learner and transitioning into a teacher, I have been able to reflect on my experiences and have gathered new insights as a professional educator. In the past three years specifically, I have learned who I am as a person, what my passions are, and what motivates me as a teacher. Through careful reflection, analysis, and peer support, I have created the following frame of reference to reflect; my vision for student’s learning, my goal as a teacher, my ideal assessment strategies, and the type of classroom culture I would like to create. With that being said, I know that throughout my teaching career, I will continue to change and adapt my philosophy of teaching through my classroom challenges, successes, and knowledge.
